ULEZ Changes are now enforced in all London boroughs from 29th August 2023. This means that drivers of non-compliant vehicles are now expected to pay £12.50 per day for driving within these districts.
These changes have affected many of us even if we don’t regularly approach the centre of the city. Families and workplaces often are just a few miles away but the journey takes us through the chargeable ULEZ zone.
The exact ULEZ area is shown below in the official map and for those of us with non-compliant cars, it will cost a hefty penny to drive through these zones.
Is my car ULEZ compliant?
Thankfully the UK government have made checking your vehicle relatively easy. Their website here, offers an easy system to see if your car will require a charge or not.
This online checker ensures your vehicle has:
- a Euro 3 engine for motorcycles, mopeds, motorised tricycles and quadricycles
- A Euro 4 engine for petrol vehicles
- A Euro 6 engine for diesel vehicles.
As a good rule of thumb, Euro 4 engines become mandatory for all new cars in 2005 and light vans in 2006. Euro 6 became mandatory for cars from 2015 (some vehicles are exempt from these dates though).
If you are driving a car that is ULEZ compliant and drive into the area regularly, then the saving will be significant. Over a five day week, the potential charge for ULEZ is £3,250. That’s enough to drive a new car!
We urge our customers to use the online vehicle check tool as soon as possible. Fines for not paying ULEZ are hefty and they will mount up quickly. If you want to drive a fully-compliant vehicle then contact our team today.
