3008 DKR revealed by Peugeot

Peugeot reveals the successor to the Dakar winning 2008 DKR: the 3008 DKR!

After a 25 year absence from the Paris-Dakar event, Peugeot returned with a bang to proudly showcase a serious contender to the field; so serious that it went on to comfortably win.

Now that Peugeot is back with a BANG, what vehicle could ever follow in the footsteps of the Paris-Dakar winning 2008 DKR? This month, Peugeot their exciting new entry to this world-famous challenge: the 3008 DKR.

Based upon the framework of the upcoming New Peugeot 3008 with a bold new design and powerful engine, the 3008 DKR was a “dream job for any designer: when you create a car, you always have a competition version at the back of your mind” said Sebastien Criquet (designer).

Fitted with 3.0 litre twin-turbo V6 diesel engine, the 3008 DKR is all about business. The New Peugeot 3008 design lines are still there so it is undoubtedly Peugeot but ramped up on steroids.

3008 DKR is an evolution of the Dakar winning 2008 DKR. Team director Bruno Famin claimed:

“Our goal was to take the weaker points of the existing car and make them stronger, while capitalising on all of the existing strengths to improve them still further”.

Considering the 2008 DKR was so successful, it is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the Peugeot Sport and Red Bull team as they ensure that the competition can be kept in the dust (literally).

You may think that creature comforts are not necessary in such a hardworking  race car but this year, the team has fitted air conditioning as driving 12 hour sessions in a cockpit that rises up to a staggering 60 degrees centigrade can effect on performance. Considering this intense heat, we think it’s worth the added weight!

Take a look at the stunning new design on the 3008 DKR. If it drives as good as it looks, we’re in for an exciting Dakar 2017.
